Welcome to Long Stratton Town Council

Long Stratton Town Council is the closest tier of local government to you, with the district authority (South Norfolk Council) above it in the hierarchy.

This site enables you to catch up on how your Town Council is serving you.  These pages include all the minutes of Town Council meetings.  If there is anything that you feel the Council should be aware of or where it can help or support you, then please do get in touch.

The Town Council

​

The Town Council is made up of 13 Councillors who are elected every 4 years, the main areas of the Councils responsibilities are:

​

  • Consulting on planning applications

  • Upkeep of the Towns 126 streetlights (Norfolk County Council are responsible for the remaining street lights).

  • The Manor Road Playing Fields - the MUGA, skate park, play area and trim trail, CCTV, BMX track, litter picking, grass and hedge cutting and any other matter relating to the playing field.

  • The Pavilion - on going maintenance, pavilion bookings, out of hours service for hirers, CCTV, public toilets.

  • Street furniture and facilities - benches, notice boards, bus shelters, Swan Lane public toilets, Defibrillators, SAM2 machines, Town sign, Manor Road telephone box, The Plain, open space by footpath 12, dog bins and litter bins (emptied by South Norfolk District Council), grit bins (filled by Norfolk County Council) Christmas motifs, Christmas trees.

  • Organising community events

  • Organising Remembrance Day road closures and apparel

  • Producing a quarterly newsletter

  • Youth outreach work and events

  • Providing support/grants for our community

  • Long Stratton's Neighbourhood Plan

  • Working closely with third parties such as the Police to tackle anti-social behaviour​​​​​

The Committees meet a minimum of 4 times a year except for staffing that meet when a need arises. In addition to this the Full Council meets every second Monday of the month at 7pm in the Town Council Pavilion apart from August.

The Town Council has the following committees:

Planning and Highways

        The committee meets to discuss and decide on supporting or objecting to planning applications based on material considerations as a statutory consultee. The final decision lays with South Norfolk District Council.

Events

        The committee meets to discuss upcoming events and community engagement.

​

Leisure and Pavilion

        The committee meets to discuss the maintenance of the playing field, enhancements to public open space that the Council has control of and all matters relating to the pavilion.

​

Finance and Policy Management

        The committee meets to discuss all budgetary matters and reviews the Council’s policies.

​

Staffing Committee

        The committee meets to discuss all matters HR.

​

Action Group

        The committee meets to discuss how to enhance Long Stratton as a place to live, how to support residents and to discuss securing funding to support this. All items on the Action Plan has been derived from parishioners from the Neighbourhood Plan. Actions can be added to the plan at any time as and when a need is identified.
